Noventus Pty Ltd of Melbourne Australia has successfully developed and delivered Business Intelligence (BI) capability […]

Noventus Pty Ltd of Melbourne Australia has successfully developed and delivered Business Intelligence (BI) capability to the Australian Department of Defence. This capability will assist Defence to effectively reconcile inconsistencies in stock holdings between the new SAP based ‘Warehouse Management System’ (WMS) and Defence’s legacy ‘Military Integrated Logistics Information System’ (MILIS). The web tool was developed as part of the WMS rollout program implemented in the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Data Warehouse (CAS DW).

The web tool operates on CIOG infrastructure and ingests both MILIS and WMS data along with identified business level errors (BLEs) from the MILIS/WMS interface. This web tool delivers summary and detailed online dashboard reporting, commentary for historical reference on errors implemented on Defence’s enterprise COGNOS capability. Specifically, the tool provides the following capabilities:

Modern, commercial grade Web interface with menu system navigation;

Summary and detailed reports per warehouse;

Drill-through with details, status and history;

Discrepancies between MILIS and WMS stock on hand;

Captures business level errors and related to the DeBi MILIS/WMS interface; and

Includes functionality to ‘write back’ commentary on the discrepancy, the user details for a historical perspective.

The web tool is one of several BI Data Warehouse based projects being undertaken by the Noventus team leveraging the CAS DW infrastructure.

Noventus’ Managing Director Keith Armstrong commented:

“It is very exciting to be developing specific Business Intelligence capability for Defence. Our ability to develop bespoke systems integration and software solutions utilising Defence’s existing enterprise tools, and to use these to solve complex problems using the Data Warehouse represents real growth for Noventus. More importantly, our Laverton based team is closely aligned to our customers and their insight is adding significant value for Defence.”

Noventus is a leading independent consultancy providing customised advisory, systems integration and software development services for the Department of Defence and large Telecommunications / Defence Aerospace multi-national systems integrators across the full capability lifecycle from concept to disposal. Noventus security cleared teams are deployed Australian wide providing multi-disciplinary Project Management, Engineering, Test and Evaluation, Integrated Logistic Support / Supply Chain, Security, and ICT services. We support the delivery of fully integrated and sustained capabilities for Land, Sea, Air and Joint platforms.

The economic downturn since 2008 has been a troublesome time for most business. Many failed – but just as many entrepreneurs took this downturn as an opportunity. Keith Armstrong, founder of the multi-disciplinary ICT and Engineering consulting group – Noventus, took the plunge – and it has paid off.

“There was not a great deal of CAPEX. Also it was challenging getting the word out that we could provide the same, and often better, outcomes than our competitors with superior value and service,” Armstrong says. “This was overcome by sheer hard work and belief in our business model.”

Noventus is now a preeminent national consulting firm specialising in customised advisory services for Government and large blue chip multi-national systems integrators across the full project lifecycle. Noventus teams are currently deployed in all Australian major capital cities and regional hubs.

The Noventus diversified service offerings are solving complex problems by applying unified Systems Engineering, Project Management, Multi-Disciplinary Engineering, Test& Evaluation, Logistics, Security, and ICT solutions.

Moving forward, Armstrong has developed a “multi-faceted growth strategy”.

“It involves base retention (maintaining strong client relationships), moving in adjacent markets (creating new clients through new ideas generation and thought leadership), and increasing out market coverage and position ourselves in rising markets,” he says.
